Cover Reveal

This book really is going to get done! Someday :)

I made a cover for the book to help inspire me to move forward. I hit some difficulty with it, but I think I've figured out where to go next and my writer's group is helping a lot. They like the plot I've come up with and they're helping me to polish it!

How do you like the cover? Anything you would change? Does it look cheap or unprofessional? Would this cover make you investigate the book further?

  1. As much as I HATE to say this, because I LOVE your writing very much, the cover artwork doesn't strike me. I have a collection of about 300-400 pleasure books, and I couldn't really see myself giving the book a second glance based on the cover. The title, however, would catch my attention. I also do like the simplicity of the cover. I have limited experience in visual advertising, but I am NOT any kind of authority on literature artwork. I also do not know the context of the book, however, I would imagine something a bit brighter, and less portrait-ish. I also tend to harbor abstract tendencies in relation to artwork though...

Good luck and way-to-go with moving onward!

    1. Thank you! That's the kind of thing that I NEED to know. I did this myself and I'm no artist, so I'm never sure if my ideas are working or not.

I wonder if there's no other comments because people are afraid to hurt my feelings? lol.

  2. I agree with Melisa Coto. Why not let the experts create a good cover design for you? Since you're no artist and have little to no experience, it would be wise to outsource it to a professional.

    1. This is true. lol. I just really enjoy doing it. I love to try, but the more I do the more clear it becomes that I'm not a visual artist. Makes me sad!

    2. It's not that you're not good. The point is that you have to try harder to make it even better. Are you willing to put in more hard work or will you just give up thinking that you're not good enough? Believe in yourself!

    3. Well now, that's an interesting statement. Should I keep on trying or should I turn to a professional to get something good?

To me, part of this decision comes down to the fact that I am in the middle of trying to do far too many things.

I also know where my talents lie. I am not visually attuned, I don't notice details well. That's just something about how my brain is.

I'm also getting a new company off the ground and that requires a lot of my time and energy. Writing is my talent and that's what I'm going to work on improving.

Something like drawing and making covers is a fun hobby, but it's not something I'm going to drown in guilt over giving up on either.

I'll keep having fun with it, believe me! But I may hire someone for something as important as making the book the best it can be with a cover better than I am capable of making.

  5. The title of the book is striking, but the cover art is lacking that same "oomph" and doesn't match up with the name. I do however like the color, lol.

Not to say that there is anything wrong with it, but rather it just doesn't click in my mind. I'd still love to see where you with it! ^_^
